We started our business as flower growers, and have progressed to one of the most precious flower shops in Coastal Encinitas. We love designing with a clean look, incorporating plenty of texture while using fresh local flowers as much as possible. Every piece that leaves our shop is designed as if we are presenting it to a special person in our lives.

While I have been satisfied in the past, this time was not good. The delivery person did not ring the bell, the flowers were just left, and then soon after they began losing their petals.

I live in VA and was looking for a local florist to send a friend in the Encinitas area some flowers and chocolate. Ordering online was easy and I was pleased with the process. On the day of the delivery, they called to tell me that the chocolate for the order was out of stock but offered a lengthy list of alternative choices and I let the nice young lady choose for me. I chose Matteson because it is local. Honestly, the arrangement was not what I expected. Small and sparse. I expected something more especially since I ordered the deluxe version. The price for the arrangement was high especially considering what was delivered.

The reason I cannot give 5, or even 4 stars is because the arrangement that was delivered did not resemble what was advertised. I understand that there may be some substitutions etc. However, the only flower that stayed true to the displayed arrangement were the peonies. No dahlia, no lily, no tuberose, no soft pink spray roses and no what appear to be orchids. Instead they were replaced with purple lisianthus, white roses, purple calla lilies, and orange! spray roses. Not even close. Plus I wasn't notified until 2pm, on the day of delivery. And the flowers didn't get delivered until after 5pm, even though I had placed the order 2 days prior. This was not handled well.

When a Matteson staff couldn't reach the recipient by phone, she called me. She was extremely pleasant and sincerely concerned that my daughter-in-law might not know the flowers were on her porch. I had apparently given her a number no longer being used.
As it turns out, she and my son were in LA enjoying her favorite comic. When they returned she was excited to find her flowers greeting her at the door.

Sometimes, the way to know the heart and integrity of a business is best learned when things don’t go as you expected . I ordered a custom arrangement online of flowers for a friend with her favorite flowers, and when I saw the arrangement, I realized they were not what I asked for . I was disappointed and confused, because that had not happen before with this florist. As it turned out they had a glitch in their system that they never had happened before so they did not receive the special instructions I wrote when the order was printed out for them. When they called , they were able to see the online instructions I had written.and were wanting to correct the error. They followed up immediately to see what happened within their tech system , and offered to redo the arrangement or give me a discount towards a future order. In any event, the custom arrangement they did do was beautiful, and my friend said it included some double roses that she had never seen before .I have been happy with their floral work in prior orders, and now I know they have great customer service as well.

My brother just got married and I wanted to send them a special arrangement. I live in MA and they in CA. After doing some research I decided to go with Matteson's Florist. I requested a custom arrangement and told them what flowers I liked, and didn't like, and suggested some colors. When we visit our kids in Carlsbad, we often stop at Matteson's for flowers, esp for our granddaughter who loves anything pink. I was really excited when I saw this arrangement on your website as each year on her b/day my husband gives our daughter roses. But of course roses are quite expensive so this arrangement covers all the bases - so different, elaborate yet understated, and love the red roses. Staff was nice and I like how they called to make sure the flowers were received. However, I was disappointed in the color and quality of the flowers. The website picture shows large blooming roses of pink and other pastel colors, but the actual bouquet had small, barely blooming roses that were purple (I did see any purple in the above flowers) and the pink was more of a bright fuchsia and not pastel.

My only issue was the picture had small daisies which were left out of my arrangement, and it had more roses then in my arrangement. The reason i selected it. was that I was looking for an arrangement with sunflowers, yellow roses and daisies. -and this had all three . It would have been nice to be able to put that in writing with the order ahead of time just to be sure they would use the daisies if they had them. Bit, They were lovely. and I will use them again!

Flowers are gorgeous! One thing that I wish was included were instructions keep the flowers lasting longer. I do know how to change the water and trim them in the bottoms but a few of the filler stuff dried up quickly. They are still beautiful, though! Lasted almost a week!

Matteson did a great job delivering the same day even with one hour left on the same day delivery deadline. I The recipient took pictures of the arrangement at my request. I had left the design open as "do your best" to the discretion of Matteson. While design was simple and ok, the flowers looked like they were 2-3 days past their prime. Roses were too "open" and no buds. Greenery was insufficient. Next time I will order a specific design if this was the best Matteson can do.

I'm sure the Matteson flowers were great but the website did have a problem with my order. Sorry I don't recall what the exact error msg was but when I submitted the order the website said there was some error and I should try again later. I only recall that the msg didn't make it clear to me what went wrong. I did not know that my order actually went thru until I received email confirming delivery. There had been no email confirming receipt of the order. I had instead ordered via a different website so my mother ended up with two flower deliveries. That's fine since she deserves both and more. However the website did mislead me.

I chose the Premium level and my recipient knew that the flowers were way more than run of mill flowers...I could tell from her voice that she was very impressed and she is a part time florist herself! The arrangement that was delivered looked nothing like what I ordered. We're not talking substitution of one flower or anything like that, we're talking a completely different arrangement. Look at the photo...see the dark magenta, the oranges...I received none of that. What was delivered was baby pink and red roses. You absolutely ruined my Valentine's Day. Livid right now.

Beautiful arrangement. I had to get used to the idea that the actual delivery is never the same as the picture, but instead something similar based on the freshest flowers. I also learned that the regular arrangements do not have enough flowers. I would have not returned if I had only seen the regular arrangement. I had already ordered a deluxe one. Once I saw that one, I could see that they do amazing work, but only if you select deluxe (or more).
