Adelaide's has proudly provided flower delivery for some of Greater San Diego's finer homes, businesses, weddings and events. From a "Housewives of Orange County" wedding to other hush-hush celebrity weddings and high-level corporate retreats, Adelaide's has provided the best flowers. ABOUT THE OWNER
Jerry Parent & Larry Anhorn
Adelaide’s of La Jolla celebrated not only its 80th year of being in business in 2016, but its acquisition by two floral pros - Larry Anhorn and Jerry Parent. Jerry & Larry, however, are not new to Adelaide’s but rather have spent the past five years heading-up the day-to-day operations and the overall creative direction for the company. While being respectful of the style, gift selection and traditions Adelaide’s has always been known for, the look and feel of the company over the past five years has been shifting to encompass all generations – from traditional to cutting edge contemporary. As Larry Anhorn states “Adelaide’s is not just your Grandmother’s Flower Shop any longer”. He further comments, “While we continue to cater to the more traditional needs of our customers who have supported Adelaide’s since the beginning, we (and they) know that we must also embrace the needs and tastes of their children and their children’s generations. We are one of the only shops left in San Diego that truly knows how to create the romance & style of the thirties & forties for one customer while designing a hipster wedding for another at the same time!” Larry Anhorn and Jerry Parent entered the floral scene in San Diego in 1995 with the creation of their Banker’s Hill and ultimately Hillcrest - European-styled floral and event company – FloraStyle. Various consumer polls at the time always placed them neck-in-neck with Adelaide’s as the “Best Floral Company in San Diego.” It was only natural then that they ultimately take over to carry on the grand style that Adelaide’s had become known for. Adelaide’s was founded in 1936 as a roadside stand in Encinitas California by Adelaide Phillips with a $6.00 investment. Quickly they grew and opened their current retail location in La Jolla, CA in 1945. While the Phillips family sold the company in 2010, the new owners remained behind the scenes and allowed Larry and Jerry full reign to put their creative vision to work. Larry and Jerry acquired partial ownership in 2015 and completed the sale on January 31, 2016. Many longtime employees of Adelaide’s are still working side-by-side with Larry & Jerry including two of Adelaide’s granddaughters. We are always trying to create a sense of family & fun in the business. “We were told once by the publisher of a local magazine that the best part of going into FloraStyle was that it always felt like a party” stated Anhorn. “While the full-on party days may be behind us, we certainly want all of our customers and employees to feel like they have come home whenever they enter into our store. We also still crank up the music from time-to-time to make Adelaide’s a fun experience for all.” “We are proud and humbled to be the ones to carry-on Adelaide’s great name and reputation” stated Parent. “Our goal is to not only celebrate with the community her 80th year in business later this year, but her 100th year in 2036. Ultimately we want to make Adelaide and the communities of La Jolla and San Diego proud that her vision, and their support, were the true success story” stated Parent. “We are simply the ones privileged to keep the creative engine running”. Substitution Policy
In some instances, our photo may represent an overall theme or look and include a one-of-a-kind vase which cannot be exactly replicated.
Although the actual bouquet may not precisely match the photo, its temperament will. Occasionally, substitutions of flowers and/or containers happen due to weather, seasonality and market conditions which may affect availability. If this is the case with the gift you’ve selected, we will ensure that the style, theme and color scheme of your arrangement is preserved and will only substitute items of equal value or higher value.
If any design elements are of major importance to your order, please include them in the florist instructions at checkout or contact us to ensure availability.
Delivery Policy
Every gift ordered through BloomNation is personally hand-delivered by the local florist. Each local florist sets their own delivery area and fee. Most florists offer same-day hand delivery, but may have different order received cut-off times for same-day delivery that are based off of the recipient's time zone.
Refund Policy
Refunds are processed immediately. Please allow 5–10 business days for the refund to appear on your statement.

Our subscriptions allow you to select a delivery frequency that best suits your needs - either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
How often will I be billed?
You will be billed 5 days before the delivery schedule you select (either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly). This is to ensure your florist will have adequate time to prepare your order.
How do I make changes to my subscription plan?
You can call the florist any time before the scheduled delivery or pickup date to make changes to your subscription plan and orders.
Can I pause my subscription plan?
Yes, you can! contact us at (858) 454-0146, let us know the next best delivery date and we’ll pause your subscription.
How do I cancel my subscription plan?
We’d be happy to take care of that for you! Please contact us at (858) 454-0146 and we’ll cancel your subscription right away.

For the first time ever we were disappointed with an arrangement from the flower shop. Adelaide was my grandmother, the arrangement was for my mother Jane’s 91st birthday. I was going by the price I am usually charged for a really great one, but it was obvious no one from the Phillips family was at the shop on Saturday. The flowers were colorful, but stems cut too short, really just a glorified corsage. As long as she lives, Jane will always be your most critical customer, as she worked for many years right alongside her siblings Dorothy, Jimmy, and Harry to get Adelaide’s off the ground in the early years. “Worked” is too weak of a description. They busted their a**es, everyday, and even as young children, my siblings, cousins, and I recognized that. Please don’t let the reputation of your shop slip downhill. Or, if that is what is happening, please do not use my grandmother’s name anymore. Hopefully we just caught you on an off day, but there really shouldn’t be any off days in your business. It’s very convenient to buy a mediocre flower bowl at Vons. We all want Adelaides to continue to be the best flower shop in San Diego, for your sake and the family’s.

Frankly, I was very disappointed in the poinsettia I received from Adelaide's. It looks very bare and somewhat scraggly because there are no flowers on the bottom half of the branches. It looks nothing like the picture of the poinsettia online.

This arrangement turned out ok. I was expecting a grander more upright version for the amount of money spent. The blooms were beautiful but I don’t think much care was taken in the arranging. This was for a home wedding centerpiece and while the colors where great it did not express the vision of the online photo. It was more flat and bent instead of upright.

This was the most satisfying experience I have ever had sending flowers. My sister came down with Covid and double pneumonia; I’m in L.A., she’s in S.D. I’m worried and tense, but I can’t go see her In the hospital or even be with her family because I’ll be exposed. So, she loves snapdragons and pink roses. I thought it would lift her spirits. I LITERALLY searched the country for snapdragons and pink roses and the ONLY one I find at Adelaides in her own backyard! Hi There - I was incredibly disappointed in the flowers I ordered from Adelaide's for Mother's day. I would of expected a much more extravagant bouquet for the money spent. The flowers also died quickly. My mom bought flowers from Costco the same day she received the flowers I sent and the Costco flowers lasted 3 days longer.

Lovely LITTLE plant. It would hlep if there was spmething in the frame like a ruler or other clue that would give a perspective on size. Now I do know how small it is, and that it needs 3 long brown "twigs" to hold the three stems upright.

This Mother's Day season I sent out 5 arrangements, and i have to say, all 5 were top notch! The flowers were fresh and have been opening over the last week. The lilies in particular were spectacular from a size and scent standpoint....never seen anything like it!

I ordered cookies and truffles for my son-in-laws birthday. Adelaide’s was unable to get the cookies due to the Covid 19 epidemic. Jerry Parent emailed me and offered to replace the cookies with another box of truffles or a succulent garden. Both were priced higher than the cookies and would be no additional cost to me. What showed up was a bit smaller than in the photo but still very nice in a nice case. I would make it a bit larger than the photo to make sure the customer is very satisfied... Instead of smaller. Adelaides is a top notch place.

Love working with them. Have had an account there since the 1980’s. The arrangement that Rrived was not quite as nice as the photo. Has many lilies, but none are open. The snapdragons are the same, but the tea roses are a different color. Delivery time was awesome and friend in hospital was very happy.

This came with a white candle - not acceptable considering the cost and that it is a "centerpiece." This became a scramble for me to replace the candle at the last minute so that it would match the rest of the table decor. I order every year for Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays and have ordered for other large events, so this was really frustrating for me. I have always been able to count on Adelaide's, now I am not so sure. There were also more "filler" blooms in this arrangement than pictured and in past years. We used it after I replaced the candle, but it was disappointing.

Not only did they not correct the writing on the order but the value was NOT there. $250.00 plus $50.00 delivery was not worth of flowers. They looked like something Id get from 1-800 flowers they were not 250 worth of lilies and Im very disappointed!

Every gift ordered through BloomNation is personally hand-delivered by the local florist.
Each local florist sets their own delivery area and fee.
Most florists offer same-day hand delivery, but may have different order received
cut-off times for same-day delivery that are based off of the recipient’s time zone.
Florists that offer same-day delivery display their same-day delivery cut-off time in
their store detail section. Orders received after that time may be delivered the
