Flowers for Father’s Day: Why More Dads Deserve the Gift of Flowers

What Happened When We Gave Dads Flowers

Let’s start with the obvious: men don’t often get flowers.
Most dads will go their entire lives without ever being handed a bouquet. It’s not because they don’t want them, it’s because no one thinks to give them.
We wanted to see what would happen if we changed that. So we did something simple: we walked the streets of Santa Monica with armfuls of flowers and started handing them out to dads. No reason, no pitch. Just flowers, straight from the heart.
One man laughed and shook his head in disbelief. Another teared up quietly. A few looked around like they weren’t sure it was really for them.
That moment, when someone feels seen and celebrated in a way they never have before, that’s the power of flowers. They don’t just decorate a table. They don’t just smell nice. They acknowledge something. They say: I thought of you. I appreciate you. You matter.
And for dads, that message hits differently.
Here’s something else to consider: June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. At a time when conversations about emotional well-being are more important than ever, this small gesture takes on even more meaning.
Flowers for Father’s Day aren’t about tradition. They’re about breaking one. They challenge the role of softness and beauty within masculinity. They open a door that’s been closed for too long.
The truth is, there’s no “right” kind of flower for a man. Bold tropicals, sculptural greens, rich, jewel tones, even classic roses—when given with real intent, all of them land. What matters isn’t the style, but the love behind the gesture.
We couldn’t have made this project happen without the generous support of two incredible partners who helped bring the vision to life.
- Bellevue Roses, known for the high-quality, farm-fresh flowers grown in Ecuador and shipped directly to florists, generously donated the flowers to make the experiment possible.
- Designs by David, whose owner, David Mark, crafted the elegant, masculine-forward arrangements specifically for this campaign. His thoughtful designs helped these flowers resonate deeply with every dad who received them.
If you’re a florist, think about the fathers in your community. Think about the men who may have never been on the receiving end of flowers, and what it would mean to change that.
And if you’re someone wondering if your dad would appreciate flowers this Father’s Day, he will. Maybe more than you think.
Because the moment a man receives flowers for the first time isn’t just sweet or surprising.
It’s transformative.
