Harriet's Flowers
Harriet's Flowers has been family owned and operated for three generations. Harriet's Flowers has provided the South Shore area with a rich and colorful history of creative floral designs and personalized service. Originally, the shop was named Violet’s Flowers after Harriet’s mother Violet Hovey. Harriet and her mother attended floral design school in Tampa when Harriet was only 14 years old. After successfully completing the course, they opened the first flower shop in Ruskin in 1954. Harriet bought the shop from her mom in 1970 and changed the name to Harriet’s Flowers. Even after selling the shop, Violet kept a watchful eye on her daughter’s growing business and was always willing to share her expertise and lend a hand. Harriet then passed on her love of the business to her daughter Gail, teaching her the elements of design, the importance of customer service, as well as fostering Gail’s own creative talents as her mother had done for her. The three of them enjoyed working together for many years. They entered countless design shows and won many awards creatively challenging each other along the way. When Gail bought the shop in 2003, after managing the store for 20 plus years, she decided to leave the name the same because of the wonderful reputation they built under the Harriet's Flowers name. Presently, Gail, Harriet and a staff of experienced designers still hold to the traditions that the shop was founded on; quality, creativity and personal attention. After all, helping others to express their sentiments through the beauty and richness of flowers remains their ultimate goal. Thank you for choosing Harriet's Flowers for three generations.

The arrangement was beautiful and my wife loved it. It was delivered on time on Saturday, the day before Mother’s Day. By Tuesday it was showing signs of dying and by Wednesday morning many flowers were wilting. Usually arrangements I have purchased lasted close to a week. We did keep it watered.

In the end I was happy with purchase. However, when the flowers were delivered, and they were not what I had ordered. (Fortunately, we were home, and I was able to talk to the driver.) The driver took them back to the shop and about an hour later the correct dish was delivered.

My wife said the arrangement was very nice. So, she and I were both happy about that. However, the scent given off from the arrangement was not so pleasant. We both sneezed and coughed until we set the flowers outside. The scent is still there a day after we received the flowers and they are still outside our house. So, yes the product could have been better.

I ordered flowers for my aunt’s birthday. When they tried to deliver the flowers they found out that my aunt had been admitted to the hospital that morning. Rather than giving up, they found out which hospital it was and went out of their way to deliver some extra needed cheer to her at the hospital. I asked if they wanted to bill me for an extra delivery fee and they said “No, we don’t do that here.” This is a great company owned/staffed by great people!

The flowers always exceed expectations, are delivered on time in perfect condition, and last far longer than any others. I just ordered the Tropical Paradise arrangement for Mothers Day, and I got a call at home from Gail to confirm the delivery date because the date I chose was a week after Mothers Day. So glad they caught my mistake. Try getting that kind of service from any of the big onine florists. My mother in law called to rave about the arrangement. I highly recommend Harriet's Flowers.
