Barlow Florist
We’re located in the heart of Barry County and nestled in Downtown Hastings. Barlow Florist has been the go-to florist for multiple generations! We were founded by Eugene and Norma Barlow in 1954, and passed along to their son, Norm Barlow, and his wife, Carole, in 1958. They in turn passed the flower shop down to their son, Carlos Barlow, in 2021. Whatever you want to say, SAY IT WITH FLOWERS! FLOWERS & PLANTS Whether you want to celebrate an anniversary, birthday, new baby, or just because, you’re in good hands. We will use our 70+ years of experience to create a beautiful arrangement that will bring joy to any occasion! If flowers aren’t your thing, we also have a wide selection of household plants, blooming plants, and dish gardens. MEMORIAL SERVICES Sending your condolences can be heartbreaking. Allow us to help ease this process by guiding you through how to transform your feelings into your sympathy gift. You can select from appropriate floral arrangements, memorial keepsakes, standing sprays, and casket sprays. Add a personal touch with a sympathy streamer that reflects your relationship with the deceased (“Mother” “Father” “Grandma” “Grandpa” etc). If you don’t see the items that you want or would like to view our sympathy books in store, please call us to set up an appointment to sit down with one of our experienced designers. TUXEDOS Don’t drive all the way to the big cities to get your tuxedos, get them here! You’ll get the same big store tuxedo options at a lower price. You can also use us to get measured and we will send your information to the tuxedo store of your choice. Set up an appointment to view our books or to get measured at least two weeks before the event date. Need a tuxedo for longer than a weekend? We offer extended rental options!

Carlos Barlow
Taking over the business at the beginning of 2021, Carlos became the third generation of the Barlow family to own and operate Barlow Florist. His passions include spending time with his family, working out, and listening to Audibles to learn about new things. His favorite arrangement to create is the Pretty Please bouquet which uses roses and daisies.

The flower arrangement is crafted very beautifully. I appreciated the note card being large enough that it was not missed and the font being large enough and easily visible to read.
The only thing- and it’s not even a complaint, just a suggestion- is to have time frames of delivery available. I didn’t know when to expect them to arrive to the recipient.

I order from Barlows for all seasons for my wife. Every season!!! We enjoy most arrangements and being on time. The last 2 orders did not go so well. For Valentine’s Day the arrangement and vase was no where near what was pictured. I paid over $115 for a smaller vase that was left on the porch when we were home and the vase was uneven on the bottom, wouldn’t stand on its own, knocked over on the porch with broken flowers.
Now for Easter, I ordered a large beautiful arrangement and vase. Got a call last minute and asked if I would take a different arrangement that was just as nice since they were behind. I agreed and it was nice they called to ask. However this vase and arrangement were way cheaper and much smaller. It was nice but I wanted great for my wife.
I rarely confront things like this and let it fly. However it is important to be to go above and beyond for my wife. Money isn’t the issue, the vase and arrangement do matter and her smile on her face. And the hugs I get. lol. I hope this was the last time I get less than expected. I will continue to use Barlows for my flowers. But truly hope this note matters.

I chose this arrangement because she loved the lavender color. The arrangement that was sent was all pink variegated carnations a few pink roses and 3 white lilies in which I do not like.No purple/lavender at all. Very disappointed. This is the 2nd time disappointed. I felt I gave you plenty of time to order the flowers for this arrangement.

It was ok. The florist did call to say they were out of sunflowers, the star of this arrangement, but the alternatives she suggested were all smaller, cheaper flowers, like alstroemeria, daisies or “we’ll see what we have”. It kind of looked like a “well, this is what we have on hand” bouquet”. More grocery store bouquet than $100 professional floral arrangement. I wish I could post a side by side pic.

The flowers were beautiful but the delivery was to the neighbor instead of to the correct address even though I had included instructions to ‘leave on the porch’.
The recipient had just went thru a medical procedure and had to pick up her flowers from the neighbor for absolutely NO reason’. If this would have been to the wrong neighbor it could have been a volatile situation. Details matter.

Too many times in the past when ordering from other floral companies I would receive a message that the vase I had chosen would have to be substituted. NOT FROM BARLOW FLORIST ! I actually wasn't happy with the arrangement at all. The flowers in the picture are bright and happy. The arrangement that was received was darker and more morbid, which I totally did not want. Disappointed that I paid the highest price and got way less flowers that were not full of "goodness and light" at all. Also ordered direct from local company on purpose to help small business.

When I chose a designer's choice, I was not able to view the product, so I don't know how it turned out. I am waiting for the recipient to tell me what she thinks, but she doesn't have the capability to take a picture and send it to me from her phone.
I would recommend that in the future you take a picture of the finished product and send it to the buyer before it is sent.

I had asked for yellow roses to be included and didn't see any. The size of the bouquet and cost didn't match. It was too small for what I paid especially without the yellow roses in it. These are likely the last flowers my mom will get before she dies and I really wanted them to be special. Very disappointing. I’m only rating this because I have to, to leave a review. Barlows called me to tell me they didn’t have any flowers as pictured but they had the Pumpkin as pictured along with spooky details. Florist asked if using a plant would work in its stead was ok. Me being a plant lover ok’d it. What a mistake that was! If I could up load a picture of the horrible arrangement that my loved one received on our 22nd Anniversary. It’s disgusting! And Barlows should be ashamed of themselves. I can not believe that they actually approved this arrangement. Not to mention my Husband had to go pick it up. So No surprise there. Worst experience Ever! Worst place Ever. Sorry Barlows Not Sorry Get it Together.

So, I must admit to being extremely disappointed with the flowers I ordered my wife for Mother’s Day. Having been informed by a Barlow’s employee they wouldn’t have the white lilies, I assumed they would come up with a substitute that complemented the arrangement on the website. Other than the vase there was no resemblance. What should have been a lavender, pink & white pastel type arrangement was instead crammed full of red chrysanthemums and peach and yellow roses. Not even close to my wife’s favorite colors.

Placed an order for a specific arrangement from the website the night before I wanted the flowers delivered. Barlows calls the next morning to say they do not have some of the flowers. That is perfectly fine. I ask when it will be delivered, they say around noon, cool beans. I receive a confirmation at 3:50 that it was delivered, which worried me, as it was going to a school and they would be out for the day. I called the recipient, they sent me a photo and it looks nothing like the arrangement I selected. It was beautiful and my niece loved it, but not what I ordered.

The bouquet I received was absolutely nothing like pictured. They did call saying they were running out if flowers and asked if some substations were OK, however, the bouquet was no where near full, the flowers were extremely long stemmed and just randomly stuck in a vase. The delivery driver had also stated she knocked the bouquet over and there was water everywhere. Overall a horrible experience. I would have been better off spending half the money on a grocery store bouquet instead of trying to support local business.

Thank you for sending the photo.
The piece is cute, but I really did expect to look a lot more like the photo on your website. There were no pinecones or pieces of evergreen around the perimeter or holly berries. I do thank you for the substitution of a couple of roses for carnations and the addition of candy canes positioned into a heart.
I appreciate that your store is even open during this COVID mess. Because places like FTD/Pro-flowers etc charge $O much and send little of that money to the florist, I always try to directly support the brick and mortar stores whenever I can. I also realize that there are shortages and shipping issues in many industries. It is the end of the holiday season so you may be out of stock on some items but other than the vase, there is little resemblance to the piece I ordered.
I am not angry, just very disappointed. My sister will not know the difference, but I will. Had someone called me to let me know it would not be close to what I ordered I would have worked with you to select something else.

The flowers were pretty however, I chose this bouquet in part because of the yellow ball type vase with the yellow and white daisy’s. What was delivered was the daisy’s in a tall clear glass vase. No where near as nice as the yellow ball vase.

Though the description said approximately, what was received was not very close to the arrangement shown. There was no bow/ribbon and the arrangement didn't include the small white flowers. I ordered the spring favorites arrangement for my parents for Easter. What they received looked nothing like the picture. They received a planter with flower bulbs and a big bow. That's it. I wish I could attach pictures so you could see the stark contrast. There was no greenery as shown all around the bottom. No pot with pink roses. No flowers on it at all, just bulbs which did eventually haphazardly bloom, but looked absolutely nothing like the picture. I called to inquire about what happened and Mrs. Barlow was immediately defensive and rude to me. I was really surprised by this poor customer service. She didn't even try to listen to what I was politely but directly asking about. She cut me off and handed the phone to Mr. Barlow who was much nicer, but still claimed that he sent what was ordered. He said sometimes they can't do what's in the picture, but what was received was so vastly different. It wasn’t even close! If they aren't able to make arrangements that look at least somewhat like the pictures on their website then they shouldn't advertise them as available. They also could have contacted me and discussed another option. I'm being kind and giving them 2 stars because he did offer to send another small plant out to my parents. This was done, but it did not contain any note or description and was just left at their door. It didn’t make up for the expensive arrangement that I had ordered. I was really looking forward to my parents receiving a nice arrangement for Easter and this issue and negative customer service that I received on the phone really ruined the day and experience. I don't recommend this place and will never use them again.

The floral arrangement that was sent is nothing like the picture. I ordered the daisies on purpose to lift someone spirit. Instead the arrangement was mist red carnations, greenery with little red roses. I specifically chose a non lily arrangement because they are not good for animals but there are lilies in the arrangement. If I had known you couldn’t do what was ordered. I would’ve requested something else.

It was a pretty arrangement but not as full as I expected, nor did the flowers have any scent. The picture shows stargazer lilies which have a beautiful heady fragrance which my wife loves. The lilies in the arrangement I received were not Stargazers nor even Oriental lilies. The roses did not have any scent either. I expected more for the money spent.

I ordered this and upgraded to the premium option, so I thought this would be fuller and have more premium flowers. I was sent a pic of the arrangement and was very disappointed because with the premium upgrade I could see no extra flowers at all! This was a valentines bouquet and the arrangement had more of the cheap white pom filler than anything! I am a florist myself so this was pretty disappointing! I live out of state so the only way to get a floral arrangement to our mother is by ordering and having faith that the job will be done right. Quality control should be done before sending these out! Now the arrangement itself was proportionate but the stems used were not even close to merit the price of the upgrade.

The arrangement was beautiful and delivered on time, but the delivery person dropped the flowers on the front steps, which are very obviously never used and never knocked or rang the bell. Thankfully a neighbor drove by and noticed them sitting out front and delivered them to the back door so they were received.

The only thing bad was that I had left a comment for the Florist in the comment box to "add a balloon" to the flowers as I did not see a Balloon tab! A balloon was never added to my order, so I would suggest that someone look at the comment box since it is on there for a purpose! Other than that all was good and the flowers were enjoyed!

I received a phone call from Barlow's after I placed my order. The gal said that she was very sorry but didn't have the vase in the picture in stock and the "Happy Birthday" sign that she was also not the same. When I called to complain they said “well it’s mother’s day weekend and we are running out of flowers.” If that’s the case you should state that, or be better prepared for mother’s day.

The customer service was great. The bouquet was not nearly as full as depicted in the stock image. There was only one daisy visible in the picture my mom sent me and a few carnations with alstroemeria. I'd never tell my mom that I expected a fuller bouquet. I picked out a fall themed bouquet with fall leaves, berries and sprays of something like babies breath in a leaf themed vase with fall colored flowers. NONE of these elements were included in the item delivered. It was simple, common flowers like I see in a grocery store bouquet. Also, it had easily 1/2 or 1/3 the number of flowers than in the picture. I wish I could post side by side pictures. We communicated a lot. Their first reason was that they delivered the wrong bouquet. The next response was that someone had contacted me about a vase substitution (no one had). Then they said the warm weather had something to do with it. They did respond quickly to my communication and did redeliver some more flowers. I'm ready to move on. I wonder if the bouquets pictured online are too ambitious for a smaller florist to fulfill. The bouquet advertised seemed like too good a deal for the price. It was.

I have bought many flowers over the years and have never had them look so awful so fast. I normally buy lilies because they last awhile but these were wilted and dead the next day. Next time I will use anyone but barlows. If they really cared they would not put old flowers in a $65 dollar bouquet. Sad this happens when they send me emails asking for a review. I took pictures for my friends due to my disbelief in the quality.

This was a bait and switch. I ordered the How Sweet It Is arrangement (which has orange roses in the photo) because orange is my mother-in-law's favorite color. Not only were the roses yellow instead, but the other flowers in the arrangement were different types & colors from the photo & even the greenery and vase were different.

I had Karen send me a picture of the arrangement and I was very disappointed. It did not look like the picture. I expected it to be all red, green and white and instead there were pink and white lilies at one end and the elements were not evenly dispersed but in clumps. There was a ugly gold pick on one side and a bunch of white flowers in another spot. The overall shape of the arrangement was not like the picture and not as pleasing to the eye.
