A & K Floral Design
A&K Floral Design is black family owned/operated in the Eagle Rock section of West Orange, NJ. It was established in 1906, formerly known as Freytag’s Flowers, and has changed ownership four times, continuously serving the floral needs of West Orange and surrounding Essex County communities. We are committed to offering only the finest floral arrangements backed by service that is friendly, professional and as time sensitive as possible. Our large assortment of fresh flowers is carefully maintained in our expansive four-door refrigerator. We take pride in our warm and inviting space where you can surround yourself with flowers as you wait in comfort for your arrangement to be created. Anya Edwards
Anya’s first full time professional position after college was with one of the premier names in the Retail industry, Saks Fifth Avenue. There she learned the value of merchandising, customer service and product quality and where she fine-tuned an excellent eye for style and design. With many years in Corporate America, and a Master’s Degree in business as her foundation, she understands the importance of providing value to the consumer while creating and maintaining relationships. Upon acquiring A and K Floral Design, Anya was rigorously trained by one of the previous owners who has a reputation for being meticulous and exacting. As owner and lead designer, Anya has been producing her own beautiful floral arrangements with her aesthetic since 2018. She is committed to maintaining the legacy of one of West Orange’s most recognized businesses while making your experience a pleasant, professional, and memorable one. Hi Gabriel, your roses were all orange, as you requested, six were a deeper color orange but they were all orange. All roses come in a variety of shades, the roses in your arrangement were "Orange Crush" and "Santana" there is a big difference between both of these and red roses.

I requested an appropriate floral arrangement for my first date with Lily, a nice gal I recently met, and Anya made a stunning arrangement for me. It included a couple of pink and white Roses, a Lily, Hydrangea, Alstroemeria aka Peruvian Lilies, Stock flowers, and eucalyptus. My date went very well, and Lily loves the floral arrangement, and the cute Teddy Bear that I also picked up in West Orange, New Jersey, at A&K Floral Design, which I recommend to all my friends, and to anyone else is looking for a great florist.

The person I worked with at the florist was lovely and very helpful. However, this piece, along with the other funeral piece I ordered were things she didn’t have and they were ordered online from a website to be delivered to the funeral home. This piece, the moonlit walk, was not full as it is shown in the photo. It looked more like a small “V”. A lot less flowers. It was disappointing. The other arrangement was very nice. I would definitely go by A&K Florists again, but if they have to order the arrangement online, I believe I would have to go elsewhere.

A&K said it would be tough but she said she would call around and see if she could find the flowers for us. She called me back 2 hours later saying she could do the job. She even arraigned for us to pick up the flowers after hours on a Saturday!
I cannot recommend this business enough. They went out of their way to help a local non-profit organization for a job that probably didn't make them a ton of money. We will continue to use their services and you should too.

My flower arrangement was not at the funeral home. The card was a special note to my dear friend. The lady I spoke to at the florist said she delivered them but the cards were put on the wrong arrangement. I was extremely disappointed and upset. I had called Danglers to ask who they recommended. The card was not on the right item. The plant was there but had someone else’s name on it. Our name card was put on a table too flower arrangement. Originally, I thought you just sent the wrong thing, it wasn’t until the end that someone mentioned that another person was upset that you sent a plant for them and they ordered a table top.

This place continues to knock it out of the park. For many years I've been ordering from them a couple of times each year. Flowers are always stunning and the price is fair. Over time everyone knows that any given shop has fluctuations in quality, ups and downs, etc. sometimes you hear that a place "isn't what it used to be" - well this place keeps getting better. The person I have been wooing with their flowers always loves them, and as a side note, her colleagues always gasp when they see the flowers delivered. Keep up the good work!

I was extremely unhappy with my order. The arrangement shown is standard and I upgraded to a deluxe. But what was delivered was nothing as nice as what is pictured and smaller than the standard let alone a deluxe. I wish I could attached the pictures I took.

The only criticism I would have is, I think you might want to upgrade your ribbon. The arrangement had the sheer wired variety, and it just didn't show well with the beautiful flowers. There were arrangements from other florists who had used a higher quality ribbon and with the arrangements side by side, it was quite noticeable.

I was very excited that I was able to find a florist close to my friend to send her flowers after she had to put her dog down. I found a beautiful arrangement online and ordered it. Flowers are always stunning. Head and shoulders above others I’ve tried in the area. Prices are reasonable—still with lots of other things becoming pricier. However yesterday I was in a jam - I needed flowers delivered to a school and the recipient was sick and leaving earlier than planned. The delivery person wasn’t on duty until after the birthday girl would have left the school. No matter. The boss/manager/owner got in the car and delivered the flowers herself within about 30 mins max. The head custodian hand delivered the flowers (that never happens) and all was well. THAT is going above and beyond. I’ve been a loyal customer for many years since it was Freytags and I’ll keep coming back bc of the great flowers and really great customer service.

Staff was courteous, efficient and accommodating. Went in the day before my event looking for two corsages. They had the shade of flowers I needed and agreed to have them ready by 1pm the next day. At 11am the next day, I realized I needed a boutonniere. I called to make the request, was told that they had no more of the flower I used and could come in to choose another flower and by the way, your corsages are ready. The florist did help me with an arrangement on a 2 day notice. We discussed the changing of one flower which was not available. The price quoted for the funeral arrangement was about $200. I asked for a little lesser price. Most funeral arrangements (sprays) come in 3 sizes. She agreed. Asking if $175 was ok.
The problem: The arrangement that was taken to the church did not have noticeable green leaves in the back, the flowers were spaced 2 inches a part. And the flowers did not have the customary ribbon. It looked incomplete, especially standing with the other arrangements at the church.
I called the florist after returning from the funeral to ask questions regarding the quality of the arrangement. The bottom line, I was disappointed, not pleased. One of the most beautiful arrangements I’ve ever seen. Of course there was a winter storm on the date of delivery and the store staff was so considerate that they didn’t leave the flowers to freeze in the cold. I ordered via telephone Sentiments of Serenity Spray for same day delivery for a viewing. The lady did tell me it was going to be tough but she was willing to work with me with what she had on hand. She had excellent telephone etiquette and was accommodating. The next day I saw the flowers from a distance and it looked beautiful. Unfortunately, up close they were withered/dehydrated. Needless to say, I was disappointed for the amount of money I paid. Overall, I would rate it 4 stars and use them again but not for last minute service.

awful, I wanted an ordinary funeral home flower delivery. The one - clear skies was the smallest (very) flower bouquet there and I was embarrassed by the size of it. I had to look on-line & order after asking for an ordinary funeral home delivery and had no idea this was so small

Yesterday was my daughter in laws birthday. I live in Montreal and she lives in West Orange. I had a very busy day so had left the call to the florist a bit late into the afternoon. They told me that they were closing in half an hour and could only deliver the next day. I asked if she could do something using sunflowers as the main attraction and she created bouquets with color, height, and variety while highlighting my sunflowers. What a refreshing experience. After the pandemic, quality has declined as businesses cut corners to compensate for years of loss. I do not live in the country, and I called for a funeral arrangement. I'd requested a customized arrangement with wild flowers added to their garden dish option. On their first attempt I got a regular Valentine's bouquet with tacky carnations.
The second attempt I at least got the "dish" part of the arrangement but they must not know what "wild flowers" are. So they decided red roses and pink orchids represented the "earth colours and natural toned" flowers I'd asked for.
Anyhow, when I tried to explain the misunderstanding, I'd apologized for possibly not being clear they rudely told me I should've bought a more expensive bouquet to get what I wanted. The kicker, I paid a custom price which was more expensive than "medium dish garden" I'd asked them to customize...

The flowers themselves were impressive but the ordering process was cumbersome and ultimately resulted in a delivery made with no sender info included. Embarrassingly for everyone, our recipients were left trying to guess who was sending condolences.
After completing 95% of the order via the A&K website on my phone, the form would not display the final page so I resorted to the telephone to finish the job. Sending flowers via voice on the telephone is a nightmare despite a cheery florist on the other end. I'm glad the arrangement at least got to the correct house but please streamline the website for future orders.
Update: the web host service followed-up to offer a theory that choppy cell data at the time of ordering may have interfered with the form completion. This could be the case, but a momentary gap in coverage shouldn’t redirect the customer back to square one with an empty form to refill.

The design of the item sent did not resemble this spray. Palm fronds filled the back from top to bottom, the roses were already wilting, and the 4 tiny sprigs of Bells of Ireland were disappointing. If a decent selection wasn't available, I would have preferred that you tell me. The spray shown has more color than green showing - the one sent had more green and too many visible stems from flowers. All in all, very disappointing.

This is the second time I've ordered over the phone or online from A & K, and both times I was pleased. The delivery was timely, and the bouquets looked just as pictured and as promised. Unlike in some cases where flowers may be substituted out for a lower quality, in both cases the florist used the flowers that were advertised so there were no surprises. I rate it 4 stars instead of 5, because the only issue I have was the second time around there was a delivery cost which, for local delivery, I thought was high. I don't know if this is due to the pandemic, but $10.00 more was added onto my order for delivery. Otherwise, this company does a great job.

A&K did an excellent job of taking the order easily online, communicating by email and arranging and delivering a beautiful arrangement. With COVID they can only leave at the front door so make sure you call the recipient. The driver did not ring bell and they sat outside a while. A go-to local florist!

For a bunch of years now I have been exclusively using your company for flowers. I am always happy. This was an exception. Roses were black and I got the premium package which meant that 4 extra roses were crammed in the vase. They did not fit. Was not happy with the purchase. Hopefully it was a one time aberration.

Recipients loved the bouquet delivered on a Monday, but when I saw it that Friday many of the blooms (especially the roses) were obviously past their prime. I expected it to last longer.

Not only did our recipient love the bouquet of beautiful fresh flowers, they almost didn't get delivered due to my negligence with the woman's last name. Thank God the man delivering the flowers called me and I was able to find out what the correct last name was from a co-worker, and they then gave the new name to the hospital and they were able to locate the patient and get the flowers delivered. All due to the extra effort that I'm not so sure another florist would do! We were so glad it was fixable on the spot. Great service! Quality flowers! All on time. Very happy. Will use again.

Every gift ordered through BloomNation is personally hand-delivered by the local florist.
Each local florist sets their own delivery area and fee.
Most florists offer same-day hand delivery, but may have different order received
cut-off times for same-day delivery that are based off of the recipient’s time zone.
Florists that offer same-day delivery display their same-day delivery cut-off time in
their store detail section. Orders received after that time may be delivered the
following day. Please note some florists may not make deliveries on Sunday.
To request a specific delivery time, please type it into the Special Instructions field
